I chose Susquehanna University (SU) for my undergraduate experience for a number of reasons. However, in comparison to other universities I was considering, SU attracted me because of the strength of its business program (AACSB accreditation), its study abroad opportunities, liberal arts foundation and small class size.  The campus is beautiful and reminded me of the what I always thought a college campus should look like… a park like setting with sprawling lawns and perfectly matched buildings.

SU was absolutely the right choice for me and I had an incredible experience at the university. My professors all knew me by name and had a genuine interest in my development. I was given a number of opportunities that I feel would not have been possible at a larger university and I attribute my initial internship and job opportunities to the connections I formed while at SU. Getting involved in extracurricular activities was key to my experience at SU as well. I met some of my very best friends through both my sorority and business clubs.

After college, I spent several years working in marketing and communications at a prestigious investment bank in NYC before deciding I wanted to return for my Masters degree. I chose to attend The George Washington University (GW)  in Washington, DC. GW had the exact program I was looking for and I knew the job opportunities for my career switch would be plentiful in DC.

Graduate school was a much different experience than my undergraduate time at SU. I knew at this point in my life, an urban campus was more of what I was looking for. GW has a central location in DC and the campus is surrounded by cultural and social opportunities.

My advice for students trying to select a school is to keep in mind what characteristics you personally need to excel in your education and what will make you the most happy and ready to learn.  Once you’ve selected a school, make the most of it and be sure to get involved in activities and extracurricular groups. College is a lot about what you learn outside of the classroom as well. Never underestimate the power of the connections you’ll make during your college years.
